Nintendo is more children oriented, so I would suggest gameboy, and its also cheaper. I don't think they make games for it anymore, but there's plenty games out there. He is only 10 so he should appreciate anything.

Nowadays, gameboys are rather outdated because of the release of Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. The gameboys are designed for children and family. Their games are fun and affordable. PSP however is the newest portable gaming system that has far better graphics and is geared more toward the teenager and adult consumers. Judging from the age of your son, I would say the Nintendo DS is a better choice (Price pretty much around, if not cheaper, than that of a PSP) and has a lot of fun and educational games. But if you choose gameboy, bear in mind is a little bit outdated.

If your son is some kind of a "Gizmo" kid and does not like an out-dated piece of 1990 nintendo crap, give him the PSP.
But if he just want plain entertainment, give himthe GBA.
Pros of the PSP:
Astonishing graphics, great games, games are absolutely free (you will need a custom firmware for this), massive features (it even has an internet), BEAUTIFUL and has it's own battery pack.
Cons of the PSP:
HIghly Addictive, some games are gory, your son can have access to porn sites through the PSP's internet feature (don't worry, you will need a Wi-Fi to access the internet) and thieves.
Pros of the GBA:
Many games for kids, thieves wont give a darn about that out-dated crap, lighter than the PSP, cheaper and tougher.
Cons of the GBA:
Does not have its own battery pack, games have poor graphics, OUT-DATED, low battery life, no features and less stunning. (his friends that has a PSP will probably laugh at him)
I STRONGLY reccomend the PSP, But its still your choice.
If you have any questions about the GBA and the PSP just ask me at spongebobq2@yahoo.com (i own both of them)
