How do I get my Crystal Pokemon game working with my Gameboy SP?

I have pokemon red, which is older than crystal but it still works with my gameboy SP, but this crystal game won’t. Is there anyway to get around it?

Uh, sounds like there’s a problem there. It SHOULD work. Make sure there’s nothing on those tab-thingys on the game cartridge and nothing on the reader in the SP. But, it should work. Mine does, so, I don’t know what’s the problem……….
