The Gameboy Advance may not be the last word in handheld gaming power, but it did have some incredibly fun games on it. Despite its lack of power, the little GBA had some take anywhere games that couldn’t have been any better had they been on any other system. From level grinding RPGs to Mario and Luigi, here are three great games that were on Nintendo’s last handheld device.

1. Golden Sun. This game was a brand new iteration in the long standing tradition of RPGs. It introduced players to a whole new realm and incredible graphics. Using the powers of Djinn, the player can choose how they want to fight. There is a deep system in place for using the Djinn to the greatest effect. For instance, would you rather have a super powerful attack, but have weak defense or an all around character? The world was huge and the graphics were outstanding for a GBA title. If you want to go back and play a handheld RPG classic, this is one to look for.

2. Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga was one of those games that you just had to play. From the colorful graphics to the hilarious story, the Beanbean Kingdom is new and never looked as good or played as well as it did when these two got together for a little RPG fun. This title was the first in a line of Mario and Luigi games and if you want to experience the first in the series, you will have to pick this up. Princess has been kidnapped again and it’s up to the boys to get her back. So they team up and go to battle with the dastardly Cackletta and her team of minions.

3. Mario Kart: Super Circuit. What’s a Nintendo system without a good Mario Kart? No one really knows because all of the best ones have had this game. Super Circuit featured all of the usual suspects and has nothing at all to do with RC cars. However, there are some new circuits and some classics as well. The usual powerups are here as well including red turtle shells and banana peels. Handheld racing on the GBA wasn’t complete unless you owned this game.
