How do you enter Pokemon Yellow Game Genie codes into the Nestopia Emulator?

When I copy and paste them or type them in an error message tells me no such code exists. All I want to do is find a Pokemon modifier to change one pokemon into a Growlithe. In fact. No code I enter into the Game Genie works. Same for the Nestopia gameshark.
